Tirumala-Devasthanams

Tirumala temple was first built by King Thondaman at the order of Lord balaji.It is believed lord balaji was standing in open with sky as umbrella for a long time. Thondaman built the basic temple.
Reference to this temple can be found is Tamil literature as early as 2 A.D. So temple must have been in existence far earlier. According to some devotees it is far earlier than 250 millions years. Thondaman built the garbhalayam (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple. All additional structures came much later.
After the fall of the Hindu kingdoms, the rulers of Karnataka and the Britisher have stepped into their shoes and many of the temples came under their control.
In 1933 a special Act approved by the Madras Legislature, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Committee was invested with the powers of administration and manages through a Commissioner appointed by the Government of Madras.
Now Tirumala Tirupati Temple is well maintained by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam shortly known as TTD.
